- How much does it cost?
-
You can get started for anywhere
between $1,000 - $2,000 or you can get fancy and spend allot more.
- How high does it fly?
-
Farther than the eye can see.
- How fast does it go?
-
R/C helicopters have been clocked at
over 125 MPH
- How long can it fly on a tank of fuel?
-
About 10 to 15 minutes. Large
and small helicopters can fly about the same time but the fuel used will
differ with the size engine used, so small engines have small tanks and
large engines have larger tanks.
- How much does fuel cost
- Fuel cost from $15 to $25 a gallon
depending on where you buy it.
- What is a good helicopter setup to
start with?
- We recommend a Raptor 50 V2 kit.
Not an ARF. ($400 - $700 depending on
what is in the kit package)
- OS 50 engine.
($200)
- Muffler ($50 might be
included with engine)
- Futaba 9252 servos.
(4 required at $70 each)
- Futaba GY401 Gyro with servo.
($220)
- Thunder Tiger blades. But start
with wood blades while you are learning.
(wood $20, carbon $70)
- What is a good transmitter & receiver
to start with?
- Either of these are good: Futaba 9C
or JR-9303. Personally I think the Futaba 9C is a little easier to
program and we have more of these at the field
- Receivers, 8 or 9 channel PCM.
We like to see more than 6 or 7 channels.
- Transmitter/Receiver package deals can be
had and some include servos ($400 - 600)
- What is a good way to learn how to fly
helicopters
- Start with a good simulator and
practice, practice practice.
- We use Realflight G2 or G3
($200 - $300 and they require a good computer and
graphics card)
